Traffic and Non-Traffic cases are issued by a law enforcement officer and are considered summary criminal offenses. These cases are filed in the magisterial district court.

A summary offense is a minor crime. Many violations of the Motor Vehicle Code, such as speeding, illegal parking, failure to yield at a stop sign, or going through a red light, are summary offenses. However, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is not a summary offense; it is a misdemeanor, which is a more serious crime.

Non-traffic summary offenses include things such disorderly conduct, underage drinking, harassment, criminal mischief, first offense shoplifting, game code violation, and local municipal ordinance violations.
